NAVASOTA, Texas (KBTX) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has officially designated the City of Navasota as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community.
The governor announced the designation by the Texas Music Office (TMO) in a press release Friday.
“I congratulate the City of Navasota on achieving the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation,” said Governor Abbott. “Music is key to the Texas brand and deeply rooted in the cultural traditions of our great state. Music-Friendly Texas Communities, certified by the Texas Bureau of Music, attract and develop the local music industry. , works tirelessly to promote local job creation and economic growth. In fact, with the support of the Texas Department of Music, the Texas music industry has created more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs. , which generates more than $26 billion in economic activity annually across the state. We will continue to work with communities in every region of the state to build a bigger and better Texas.”
Navasota Mayor Bart Miller said the new designation works well with the designation as the Blues Capital of Texas.
“We are very proud that Navasota has become a music-friendly Texas community,” said Jessica Tucker, member of the Navasota Music-Friendly Texas Committee and owner of Rail & Rye. “As the owner of a downtown restaurant and rooftop bar, I have had the privilege of working with musicians from Navasota and the surrounding area. I really respect the artists who share their music. They help make the atmosphere so fun. My family and employees have enjoyed supporting all the musicians who play at Rail & Rye. We are committed to cultivating an institution that embraces and appreciates live music, and we are excited about what the future holds.”
The recognition ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 19th during the Navasota Blues Music Festival and will be attended by city officials and community leaders.
That ceremony will be held at Navasota River Hall, 2692 TX-105, at 4 p.m.
Navasota’s designation marks it as the 67th Music Friendly Texas Certified Community.
