Genres are so mixed these days that it can produce the strangest musical genres. There was a time when musical genres seemed simpler. You were in either a rock band or a metal band or a county. But now there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of music genres, some meshing with each other, and others randomly having their own musical genres. Metal has the most subgenres, but every music genre has its fair share. So explore some of the weirdest music genres ever.
strangest music genre
folktronica
Folktronica, as the name suggests, offers a blend of folk and electronica. This genre combines acoustic instruments with hip-hop, electronic, and dance rhythms. Some of the most popular bands that fall into the folktronica category include Alt-J and Animal Collective. “The genre is often characterized by the use of organic and electronic sounds, as well as the incorporation of elements of traditional folk music,” says Volt.fm. “Folktronica is often seen as a bridge between traditional folk music and modern electronic music.”
lowercase letter
Lowercase is a fascinating musical genre characterized by extreme and highly dynamic sounds and styles. The term was coined by the late contemporary artist and musician Steve Rhoden. “Lowercase artists create music based on very quiet sounds, often using silence to juxtapose these sounds to amplify their intensity,” says Rate Your Music. I’m pointing it out. They further add, “Through the digital amplification of microsound, lowercase artists may also be able to uncover auditory experiences once inaccessible to the human ear.” Roden is also a great artist and has created a website dedicated to his art and music.
nintendo core
For fans of Nintendo’s classic video games from the 1980s, Nintendocore is a great deal. The term was almost coined by HORSE the Band, who combined 8-bit video game-like synths with heavy metal to create a unique metalcore sound. “The rise of Nintendo Core demonstrated the power of nostalgia in music and paved the way for other unconventional genres to emerge,” notes Indigo Music. Elsewhere, it adds, “The result is a unique blend of nostalgic melodies and high-energy instrumentation that captivated audiences around the world.” It’s certainly one of the strangest music genres, but it’s still great.
pirate metal
There’s nothing more metal than being a pirate, right? In that spirit, pirate metal is metal music that incorporates pirate themes, mythology, chants and pirate terminology. Once again, you can hear all kinds of metal, from thrash to speed to power. Scotland’s Alestorm are often cited as the first and biggest influencers in the pirate metal genre.
vaporwave
Vaporwave emerged in the early 2000s and features a combination of electronic music, visual art, and internet memes. It’s a perfect fusion of technology and music, and it’s very strange, but in a good way. When it comes to music, this genre samples R&B, lounge music, jazz, etc. and often adds other effects. It’s very 1980s-centric and also includes the 1990s. “Many producers use the visual aesthetic developed by vaporwave, often released on associated netlabels, to create specific themes such as subtle atmospherics, the use of sampling, or simply 1980s and 1990s nostalgia. ”, noted Rate the Music.
