The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 Imo elections, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has said that Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration has abandoned the World Bank-sponsored Ideato erosion project. denounced.
In a statement by the Special Media Adviser, Mr. Ikenna Onuoha, the PDP National Secretary hinted that the project was stopped due to the World Bank’s alleged refusal to supervise the project and disburse ₦500 million to the Imo State Government. Counterpart Fund.
Anyangwu made this assertion while reacting to the recent environmental hazards posed by erosion that has cut off many communities and slowed socio-economic activities in the area.
He accused the Uzodinma administration of allegedly failing to follow the contractual guidelines agreed with the World Bank and allowing the menace of erosion in Ideato North and South local governments to continue destroying properties of Imo citizens. .
Anyangwu argued that a proactive government does not need applause from the people before carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
“The APC government in the state is insensitive, inactive and unresponsive to the aspirations of the people.
“Despite the vast resources available to the government, the situation in which the people of Ideat and other parts of the state find it difficult to access the state capital by road is most unhealthy and pathetic. “This is detrimental to the destiny of the nation,” he said. said.
The media advisor further noted that it was contemptuous that the contract signed by the previous government with the World Bank to curb the menace of Ideato erosion was allegedly terminated by the Uzodinma administration.
“The problem is, if this government can treat the public like this, the Uzodinma regime will continue to subject the N10 billion sabo project in Uruala to high levels of disgrace, defamation, notoriety, intense hatred and complete abandonment.” After this, what other democratic benefits will it bring to the Imo people?
“It is unfortunate to think that if Uzodinma’s APC-led administration had allowed this project to continue, the issue of catastrophic erosion threat in Ideato North and South LGAs would have been resolved,” he added.
