Former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba has declared that President Bola Tinubu has the support of political leaders in the South-West to lead Nigeria.
According to Osoba, it was in 2007 that regional leaders agreed to elevate Tinubu from Lagos politics to national politics after he became governor of Lagos State.
Mr Osoba made this statement at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-West Zone general meeting held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos over the weekend.
He added that Tinubu has the support of political leaders to contest for a second term in office when his current term expires in 2027.
“Bola did not make himself the President of Nigeria, we did that.
“Seventeen years ago, in 2007, after he was sworn in as governor of Lagos State, we gathered at a luncheon hosted by the then South-West leader, Alhaji Hamsa. At that meeting, we learned that Bola We collectively decided that we should move from Lagos politics to the national stage and represent the interests of the Yoruba people at the highest echelons of Nigerian politics,” Osoba said in a video that went viral on the X platform. .
Going down memory lane, the former governor recalled the Yoruba politicians who aspired to the presidency but were unsuccessful.
“Many of us here today worked tirelessly to support the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in his presidential bid, but he was not allowed to get there.
“Likewise, we rallied behind the presidential ambitions of the late MKO Abiola, but we lost him and with him that opportunity. For our mission to make this country better. , they killed many of us. But thank God some of us were still alive to witness the success of Bola Tinubu,” Osoba said. .
He said any shortcomings in Tinubu’s leadership should be forgiven and he should be given a second term.
“I would like to appeal to all of you to accept his shortcomings because Bola Tinubu is there. He will do better. After his first four years in office, he will become a member of the Yoruba “As a son, I will be serving for another four years,” he said.
Mr Osoba then passed a vote of confidence on Mr Tinubu’s leadership on behalf of the group.
“The message of the South-West Congress is clear: the Yoruba leadership is united behind the Tinubu presidency and remains confident in his ability to deliver on the promises made during his term,” the APC leader submitted.
