The Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council (RSTRC) has passed a vote of confidence in the administration of Governor Siminalai Hubala, giving him its full support.
Naija News reports that the council has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take steps to resolve the escalating political tensions in the state.
At an extraordinary meeting on October 8, 2024, chaired by His Majesty Eze Chike Woluru Wodo, the council reviewed recent developments in Rivers State and reaffirmed its solidarity with Governor Hubala. Eze Oha Apala IV, Eze Oha Apala IV of Apala Kingdom, has stressed the importance of maintaining peace amidst the rising political instability.
The council commended the state government’s efforts in strengthening security, noting improved performance of the police and other security agencies.
They also praised the governor’s leadership in the Oct. 5 municipal elections, which were held peacefully despite security concerns.
The city council said in a statement on Friday: “We commend Governor Siminalai Hubala for his leadership and commitment to peace and development in Rivers State and express our unwavering support to him as he continues to implement policies and programs in the interest of the nation. , we will support him throughout his term.”
The two monarchs called on President Tinubu to ensure that the actions of him and his aides do not further worsen the political situation.
They called on all political stakeholders to put aside their differences for the sake of peace and unity in Rivers State.
In response, Governor Tomihara expressed his gratitude to traditional rulers for their continued support.
He assured the government of its respect for traditional institutions and vowed not to undermine the government’s authority.
