The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has accused its National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and Acting National Chairman Umaru Damagumu of orchestrating the ouster of Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere with a view to weakening its influence within the party. did.
Leaders of the party in Umkegwu/Umpia constituency and Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State made this assertion in a statement released on Monday.
It was earlier reported that Mr Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives who represents Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State and is the spokesperson of the United Political Alliance, has been expelled from the party.
However, local assembly leaders said the allegations of expulsion were fake news and reaffirmed Ugochinyere’s membership and leadership role within the party.
In a statement signed by the Umukegwu/Umpia Ward Chairman, Mathias Onuebunwa and the Ideato North LGA PDP Chairman, Emeka Eze, the executives said Mr. Ugochinyere remains a respected figure within the PDP.

The statement also claimed that the 27 PDP local council chairmen in Imo State issued the resolution following an emergency meeting to declare Ugochinyere as the leader of the party.
The chairmen passed a vote of confidence in the federal lawmaker due to his status as the highest-ranking PDP official elected in the state.
They reportedly tasked Ugochinyere with leading the party’s restructuring and reconciliation.
