The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended its support to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the recently concluded local government elections.
Naija News reports that the APC secured 23 chairpersonships and all 255 city council seats in the local government elections held on Saturday, October 19th.
However, the PDP disagrees with the poll results.
In response, the ruling party insisted that the municipal elections overseen by the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) were free, fair, reliable and transparent, and criticized opposition parties that did not agree with the electoral process. .
The party also called on the PDP to accept the election results in good faith.
“The Kaduna State Government has created an atmosphere conducive to the conduct of free, fair, credible and transparent elections. Unfortunately, some forces, both internal and external, are determined to cause chaos and anarchy in Kaduna State. However, the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) and security agencies rose to the challenge and overcame all odds. We ensured the conduct of free and reliable elections across the state.
“We urge the PDP to do some soul searching to find out how it came to this unfortunate outcome. How can we allow anti-democratic elements to hijack a party to further their goals? But they were thwarted by the cautious, resilient and resolute people of Kaduna State.
The statement added: “We are ready and willing to join hands with the progressive wing of the PDP and other political parties for the growth and development of local government.” We are all stakeholders in the Kaduna project. No person or region will be left behind. The interests of the good people of Kaduna State must always be at the forefront of our minds.
“Finally, let us all remain focused on our responsibilities to the people of Kaduna State. While we celebrate, we must also remember that the road ahead is rocky and tough. We have to work for the people. They have high expectations of us. We must not let them down.”
APC congratulates newly elected local government chairmen and councilors
The branch’s communications director, Salisu Tanko Usono, said in a statement on Monday that the victory secured in last Saturday’s elections was significant in many ways.
“This is a vote of confidence by the good people of Kaduna State in our great party and Governor Uba Sani’s progressive leadership. It also extends and deepens the rural transformation agenda of Kaduna State’s pioneering administration. It is also a clear mission from the people to do so.
“As the government closest to the people, we urge newly elected members to remember that their primary responsibility is to serve the interests of the people.
“They must become good ambassadors for the APC, embodying our party’s core values of service, accountability and development. The people of Kaduna have confidence in us and we must meet their expectations,” the statement said.
APC urged newly elected local government chairmen and councilors to seize this opportunity to bring about change in their communities.
The APC chief added: “We must get to work immediately and address key challenges in the areas of health, education, infrastructure and security. We must actively engage with our constituents, listen to their concerns and meet their needs. Remember, leadership is about service, not power.
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the voters of Kaduna State for their unwavering support and confidence in the All Progressives Congress. It’s a testament to your faith. We remain steadfast in our commitment to meeting your wishes. Together, we achieve remarkable progress for our community and the benefits of governance. We can make it possible for everyone to experience it.”
