The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere has vowed to unite and collaborate with Nigerians against the practice of Unitarianism in Nigerian politics.
Afenifere stated this in a communiqué issued after its monthly meeting held at Isanya Ogbo Ogun State, the residence of party leader Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
A communiqué by the Deputy Leader and National Publicity Secretary, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, and Justice Faroye read: , Unitarian policy and practice in Nigerian politics.
“Mr Afenifere noted the introduction of a bill to establish the National Independent Local Government Electoral Commission, NILGEC, to conduct local government elections, adding that the idea was a monumental 774 degree increase in INEC’s inefficiency. I think it’s nothing but a thing.
“The idea of a federal body conducting local government elections is a real weapon in the promotion of the unconcealed policy of complete occupation and absolute unitarism of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the central government; It has reached its climax under the current administration.
“Afenifere condemns all forms of political atrocities aimed at suppressing democracy by the two-tier structure of the Nigerian government and denounces in equally unmistakable terms the political gerrymandering that forces the United States into a unified nation.
“The federal government and its INEC have proven to be poor at conducting limited elections subject to constitutional constraints.”
