Barrister Gboyega Oguntuase, former chairman of the Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has explained why the party is yet to suspend former Governor Ayodele Fayose for alleged anti-party activities.
According to him, the former governor was fair enough to make it clear to members of the party that he did not consider him to be a loyal member of the PDP.
Mr Oguntuase said rather than rushing to suspend Mr Fayose’s ward, he would take time to devise a strategy to win the election.
Naija News recalls that Mr. Fayose did not support the PDP presidential candidate, Mr. Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 elections, but instead supported the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Bola Tinubu. It has been reported.
Furthermore, Fayose has publicly supported the current Ekiti State governor’s re-election bid in 2026, a decision that party members consider an anti-party act.
Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti yesterday, Mr Oguntuase said: “There are many things that the PDP takes more seriously than Mr Fayose’s conduct.
“The important thing for us is that we have to develop a strategy to win the election without him because he has said he is not on our side.
“That’s more important than running to the ward asking for suspension or expulsion.
“You members of the media are the ones who are treating him with dignity. We don’t have time for him. We are more interested in rebuilding the party and that It’s important right now.”
The former chairman added: “Mr Fayose has kindly indicated that he is not a loyal PDP member.
“He was kind enough to make it clear that he intends to destroy the party in the next gubernatorial election. He has indicated that he intends to support the opposition in the next election.
“He declared in every debate that the current governor, Mr. Abayomi Oyebunji, should continue in office for another four years.
“As far as we are concerned, if such a person again complains that he is not included in the future development of the PDP, it will prove to be self-contradictory.
“Do we want to introduce spies and enemies into our strategic plans and cause them to fail? The answer is no.
“The people who set up the caretaker committee put a lot of thought into it.”
Commenting on the new management committee, Mr. Oguntuase said the timely composition of the committee would help the loyal and dedicated members focus on rebuilding the party ahead of future state elections.
“The Management Committee, led by Mr. Lanre Adeleke, will encourage us as we work hard to rebuild the party and even work together across political parties to reach more people.
“I am happy that caretaker committees have been established in all local governments. This will allow us to start a lot of activities,” he said.
