Human rights activist Anne Kio Briggs said Rivers State Governor Siminalaya Hubala and the people of the state were being held hostage.
Mr Ankio Briggs said the hostages were due to an agreement Mr Hubala made with Mr Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State.
Mrs Briggs pointed out that Mr Wike secured Mr Hubala’s nomination for governorship.
She added that Wike was also instrumental in understanding that 13 others who bought candidate papers had abandoned their ambitions for Hubala in line with the political geography considerations of the state.
In an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Mrs Briggs regretted that it was the people of Rivers State who were affected by the political battle between the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Mr Wike and Governor Hubala. Ta.
“Last year, the people of Rivers State were shocked when the story broke that the Governor of Rivers State, Governor Siminalaya Hubala, was going to be impeached. I think the governor was shocked because he said, ‘What have I done? Is that so?” I kept asking. We were in shock, so we back off from there, but now a lot of stories are coming out, and the first claim is that the former governor is responsible for the emergence of the current governor, Governor Siminalaya Hubala. However, this is not true.
“But one person cannot make one person governor, it is mathematically incorrect. Everyone has one vote. Now, what did the former River State governor do? I bought 14 sheets for 14 people, and at one stage Siminaray Hubala was one of them, and everyone else was told to abandon their ambitions for Siminaray Hubala. There is currently a political dichotomy in Rivers State, which is why Mr. Siminalai Hubala, who is from a particular ethnic group, was given a ticket. There is a dichotomy,” she said.
Mr. Briggs continued, “Regardless of what happened between the former governor and the current governor, we did not enter into an agreement or an understanding between the current governor and the former governor that the former governor said we would, and the people of the River… It’s not a problem.
“Now we are victims along with the current governor and the state itself is being held hostage along with the people of Rivers State, the River State governor and everyone else in the current governor’s cabinet. I absolutely don’t agree with that.”
