The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized Rivers State Governor Siminalai Hubara for making a complaint after he rejected an initial proposal to take control of the party machinery.
The PDP said it had made several efforts to support the governor, but he was unable to rally his fellow governors and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to support him.
The party’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, told Tribune Online that when a vacancy arose for the Rivers State chapter chairmanship, the NWC asked Mr. Hubala to submit a candidate.
However, he rejected this, insisting that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, should choose the candidate instead.
The party spokesperson asked when Mr. Hubala realized he needed to take control of the party structure in the state, denying claims that the state leadership had favored Mr. Wike over Mr. Hubala. .
When asked why the PDP did not support Governor Hubala in his conflict with Wike for control of the Rivers PDP, Abdullahi replied: The opportunities afforded to Mr. Hubala by this party, not as governor or president, but as members of any political party, are unimaginable. ”
He stressed that Mr. Hubala was given multiple opportunities to take control of the party machinery, including the opportunity to nominate the state chairperson, but he rejected it and instead deferred to Mr. Wike.
Abdullahi added: “When did you stop recognizing him as your boss and start making all the decisions yourself?”
The PDP spokesperson expressed disappointment with Mr. Hubala’s leadership, saying that while his predecessor, Mr. Wike, was able to effectively lead the party in opposition during the Buhari administration, Mr. Hubala received support from his fellow governors and the NWC. He pointed out that he was having a hard time collecting.
Mr. Abdullahi said, “Mr. Hubala is still sitting in the same saddle but is unable to rally his colleagues and governors behind him. You can’t hold a committee and go along with him.”
A party spokesperson hinted that Hubala could face disciplinary action for alleged anti-party activities, including allegedly sponsoring another political party during the recent local government elections in Rivers State. .
He also said Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who is the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, could face similar consequences for attending the swearing-in ceremony and supporting opposition local government officials in Rivers State.
He added, “This is clear anti-party opposition on the part of the governor, and we will wait for the governor himself to do so.” The governor himself, the chairman of the Governors’ Forum, who tried to identify with him during the inauguration of elected officials, will be charged with anti-party charges.
“And this is why we are always careful to bring a sledgehammer to the head of all those who are accused of identifying with what is called anti-Party. Because you quickly realize that no one is left behind. Everyone has some behavior that could be considered anti-Party in the eyes of the law.
“So among the candidate political parties… because he went there, they took office, none of them were PDP local government chairmen, not even 21. But when the PDP forum chairmen We went there and congratulated the incumbent PDP governor on his election to the opposition party and then everyone was happy and in a festive mood. How can you say that you are contributing to the PDP just by this action?”
Mr. Abdullahi warned that the PDP could lose control of Rivers State as local government councils were transferred to the Action Peoples Party (APP), but the party’s ability to regain control by 2027 remains uncertain. expressed confidence.
