The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, of making reckless and inappropriate statements.
PDP made this assertion in a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
Mr. Ologunagba made the submission while reacting to Mr. Ganduje’s statement that the APC would capture Ondo State and other South-West states in the next election.
Naija News recalls that Ganduje disclosed this on Sunday during a stakeholder meeting in Akure along with members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC).
Reacting to the APC chairman’s position, Mr. Ologunagba described Mr. Ganduje’s statements as reckless and threatening, adding that he would resist such forceful takeover threats.
He added that any attempt to impose an unpopular government could lead to crisis, as the people of the South West are not enslaved on their own land.
“What Ganduje said about the APC’s plan to ‘occupy’ Ondo and the South-West is disturbing and inappropriate,” Ologunagba said.
“The word ‘capture’ means forcible control or occupation, and we do not accept being enslaved on our own land.”
“Historically, attempts to impose control have caused significant insecurity, as seen in the ‘wet’ crises of the 1960s and the National Party of Nigeria (NPN)’s attempt to propel Akin Omoboriowo to the governorship in 1983. Both efforts serve as a reminder of what happens when people’s will is ignored.
“Any attempt by the APC to force itself on the people of Ondo State will be met with strong resistance,” he added.
The PDP also supported the call of the Governor of Oyo State, the Commissioner of Engineering. Seyi Makinde has called for the redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the November 16 off-cycle governorship election.
Ologunagba accused the Ondo State REC of collaborating with APC leaders and displaying clear partisan bias.
