Rapper-turned-country star Jelly Roll, who has made a huge splash in Nashville in recent years, is at the helm with his most exciting album yet, set to be released on Friday, October 11th. As NPR Music’s Daoud Tyler Ameen and WRTI’s Nate, Chinen says his new album “Beautifully Broken” is a powerful (and sometimes overwhelming) depiction of recovery and empathy for those struggling with addiction. Masu.
Also on this week’s show, punk teen The Linda Lindas’ second album feels like confirmation of a promising career. Samara Joy and Immanuel Wilkins exhibited two different approaches to modern jazz vocal albums. Indie rapper ELUCID combines influences from Miles Davis to Public Enemy into something harrowing and new, and Charli XCX’s remix album makes us examine the tradition of artists reinventing their own songs.
