Today (Friday, October 25th), singer-songwriter Bryn Elliott, known for her smash hit “Might Not Like Me,” releases the single “Shiny Happy People” and its accompanying music video. was released on all streaming platforms. This is her first release since 2022’s Beautiful Things, and a new direction that delves deeper into her own story of faith, family, grief, and love.
Atlanta-raised, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Bryn Elliott’s relatable lyrics combine effortlessly warm, sweet alt-pop vocals with cinematic production to create a foggy tale of nostalgia. Expand. Her hit song “Might Not Like Me” reached #12 on Hot A/C radio in 2018. She has toured with Brandi Carlyle, OAR, Switchfoot, Allen Stone, and Alanis Morissette. Brin, who earned a degree in philosophy from Harvard University, is drawn to writing about the deepest experiences of the human condition.
“‘Shiny Happy People’ is about the temptation to put on a strong face and be positive when you lose someone you love,” Elliott says. “This song is a story about how I learned through that process that it’s good and healthy to allow yourself to be really sad, and that it’s actually true when your loved one is alive. It’s a testament to the love I experienced when I was there.
The track’s hauntingly gorgeous video was shot on location in New York. “This video is one of my favorite videos I’ve ever made. I love how it tells a story. We made a little movie. Director Aaron Craig perfectly understood my vision of depicting how awkward and even a little creepy it can be to celebrate someone’s death, with all the ridiculous props and confetti at a funeral. And the leading lady, Lillian Brown, brought the rawness of this song to the screen perfectly!”
On working with Nathan Chapman: “Working with Nathan on this song was a dream. I wrote the song myself and sent it to him for feedback and advice. He’s also a very good friend of mine. And he emailed me and asked me to produce the song. I wasn’t expecting it, but I was so happy that he wanted to be involved. His expertise was exactly what this song needed.
Elliott plans to release more new music soon and will next be playing The Bowery Vault in Nashville on November 18th.
