BEMIDJI — Headwaters Music and Arts, along with musician Annie Humphrey and visual artist Shanai Mattson, will be performing at Headwaters, 519 Minnesota Avenue NW, on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1:30 p.m. Fire in the Village” event will be held.
After a short performance and conversation with Humphrey, Mattson will lead participants through a woodblock printing activity.
These activities are part of the fall tour of Fire in the Village, a new art collective led by Humphrey of the Leech Lake Nation, David Huckfeldt of Minneapolis, and Mattson of rural Aitkin County.
“The group’s goal is to create arts and cultural experiences in small communities and cities to remind people that we are made of the earth and that we are a force,” the release states.
These concerts and community arts experiences are centered around themes of our shared connection to land and water, the importance of free thought and creative expression, and caring for our communities in turbulent times, the release said. are.
“Our Fire in the Village tour brings music, storytelling, visual art, and a spirit of inclusivity to small communities in our region,” Humphrey said in a release. “The purpose of this tour is to come together and create together, so we can recognize our connections and the true power that lies within each of us.”
