Music and sound composer Jocelyn Chambers of international music company BUTTER has been selected as the Young Guns 22 (YG22) award winner. This prestigious portfolio competition recognizes outstanding creative professionals under the age of 30, including designers, illustrators, entrepreneurs and more. Jocelyn will receive the award at the YG22 Ceremony + Party on November 13th in New York City.
She recently worked on Doritos Dinamita’s Super Bowl commercial “Dina & Mita,” Clash of Clans’ “Clan Capital” campaign, and Smirnoff’s Smash Tea Party campaign starring Kathy Hilton. Prior to earning her spot on YG22, she was a 2nd place winner in the Young Guns COLORFUL grant competition, a free portfolio competition and grant exclusively for young BIPOC creative professionals.
Jocelyn Chambers has always been a creative entrepreneur, learning how to play the piano at age 7 and running Sweets by Jocelyn at age 9. Music and film resonated deeply with her from an early age, and once she discovered film music as a career option, it was only natural to pursue it. She began her composition studies at Armstrong Community School of Music and won the Texas Young Composer Competition twice, in 2011 and 2013. She attended the American Festival of the Arts, where she co-wrote the string quartet “Enigma for the Night” with the Houston Ballet. . Chambers attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in composition and was honored by the College of Art and Design for her advocacy and activism.
She then moved to California to pursue a graduate certificate in film music at the University of California, Los Angeles. While in school, she began working as a post-production assistant on Netflix’s Grand Army and Designated Survivor, eventually writing the spec music for both projects. She also directed the feature documentary “Mama Gloria,” which focused on the life of black transgender elder Gloria Allen, and the short documentary “Mama Gloria,” which detailed the experiences of women affected by Wisconsin’s Cocaine Mama Law. He also composed the music for “In Favor of Fetus”. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, she revived Sweets by Jocelyn, which she had previously put on hold to focus on songwriting.
