A coalition of civil society groups in Edo State on Tuesday called for the restoration of fuel subsidies, improved security and the abolition of bicameral parliaments, among other demands submitted to President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Groups including African Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Talakawa Republic, Take It Back Movement and Peace Faculty said this during a rally at Edo State Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin City. Dr Lawal Heifuz, coordinator of the state’s Take It Back campaign, said CSOs are calling on the government to restore fuel subsidies and improve safety so farmers can return to farming. said.

According to him, “We are here to protest the current situation in Nigeria. People are really suffering. We ask for the reinstatement of fuel subsidy. Due to insecurity, people are forced to go to farms. They were no longer able to buy groceries.
“We don’t need the Senate and the House of Representatives at the same time. The money spent on both houses will go a long way in meeting Nigeria’s needs. The so-called minimum wage cannot buy a single bale of rice. There is extreme hunger.” he said.
Also, the Convener of the Peace Organization, Comrade Kelly Osunbor, added that Nigeria’s political class is evil and questioned the sources of funds allegedly distributed to voters during the September 21 Edo State gubernatorial election.
“They say they don’t have money, but where did the money distributed to voters come from in the September 21 election? Calculate the N10,000 to N20,000 distributed to voters. They say they don’t have money. These people are just bad people. My father wanted Nigeria to be better, but he has never seen a better Nigeria. , we want Nigeria to be better.
“The government is not giving us anything. We are sinking our own wells and they are using the fuel that God has given us for free to punish us. Parasites. Once it invades a host, it never stops feeding on the host until it is done. Nigeria’s political class is like a parasite.
Osunbor spoke on the electoral process and expressed his displeasure with the Bimodal Voter Identification System (BIVAS). “We tried BVAS and it didn’t work. We tried IReV and it didn’t work. We tried Attahir Jega and it didn’t work,” he said. Said.
