Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Tuesday adopted 95 orphans in an orphanage in the state and pledged to take full responsibility for their welfare, education and medical care.
The announcement was made at a special luncheon held as part of the 64th Independence Day celebrations in Kano.
According to a statement by Spokesperson Sanusi Batule Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf promised comprehensive support from his administration to orphans living in state orphanages during his term in office.
He stressed that education from primary to tertiary education, medical care, food and other social needs will be fully covered.
“We would like to announce that we have assumed full responsibility for all 95 orphans residing in this facility. We will continue to provide for their education, medical services, meals, and other social needs during our tenure. We will respond,” the governor said.
Governor Yusuf further stated that children will be treated with dignity and consideration and promised full benefits and privileges.
He also pledged to create opportunities for orphans to realize their full potential.
The governor, who spent quality time with the children at the 54-year-old orphanage, further donated food items worth millions of naira to support their welfare and needs.
“You are now my children, I will treat you as such. You will start to see the good in life,” the governor asserted.
