Former All Progressives Congress (APC) leader George Moghalu has been ousted from the party and moved to the Labor Party (LP).
There is evidence that Mr. Moghalu has joined the LP with the aim of running for the Anambra State governorship election, which will be held in about 15 months.
Mr. Moghalu was a pioneering auditor of the APC and most recently the managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
The former APC chief joined the LP on Tuesday at his ward in Uluagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.
Mr Moghalu, who resigned from the APC on August 26, 2024, was received by the ward chairman, executive members and local government committee chairpersons of the Labor Party branch in Uluagu, Nnewi State.
He was handed a Labor Party membership card by the District Mayor Chijoke Okeke, who had previously issued him a membership form, which he filled out and returned to party leaders during his visit.
Speaking at the event, Mr Okeke described Mr Moghalu as a patriotic technocrat and a down-to-earth person who had shown himself over the years to be a creative, wise and resourceful administrator. He said he is excited to welcome him to the party. .
Mr Okeke hoped that the presence of Mr Moghalu in the party would increase its chances of winning in the upcoming key elections, especially the upcoming Anambra South senatorial election where the party would have to demonstrate its ability to win.
In his remarks, Mogul said he made the decision to join the LP after a thorough evaluation and careful consultation with members of his family, community, constituents and other key stakeholders in the state.
