MEMPHIS, Tenn. – You might catch your favorite music artist in the Bluff City this weekend during the 7th Annual Mempho Music Fest.
Saturday marked the second day of the festival, which featured some of the biggest names in music history. Artists like Digable Planets and The Roots took to the stage. Crowds flocked from all over to see this year’s music lineup.
“We’re targeting about 30,000 people over three days,” Menfo Fest producer Mike Smith told FOX13.
Surrounded by the Memphis Botanical Gardens, the grounds of Radian’s Amphitheater were packed with people looking forward to a musical experience like no other.
“I’m looking forward to Trey tonight because I’m a big Phish fan, and Warren Haynes is coming, great musicians, the Allman Brothers.”
James Alexander of the legendary soul group The Bar-Kays was in the crowd waiting for his favorite musician to perform.
“I love ‘Digible Planets.’ I love them. I just saw their set. Right now I’m waiting for ‘The Roots,'” Alexander told FOX13. .
FOX13 also spoke with Digable Planets, a famous hip-hop group known for hits such as Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat). After the Memfo Fest performance, I had the opportunity to speak with the group’s members Mary Ann Vieira (‘Ladybug Mecca’), Ishmael Butler (‘Butterfly’) and Craig Irving (‘Doodlebug’).
“The sound was great. The band is always on top form and giving their best every time,” Ladybug Mecca said. “I was very happy and honored to be a part of this festival. I’ve heard about it many times. I’m glad to finally be here.”
The members also left words of encouragement for young people aiming to enter the entertainment world.
“Stay true to yourself and don’t let anyone take you out of your square,” Doodlebug urged. “Make sure you surround yourself with a team that believes in your vision.”
On the third day, artists like Jack White, Sublime with Rome, and several others will take the stage.
