Nigerian Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, also known as Davido, has teamed up with sportswear giant PUMA for his second collection amid a social media feud with fellow singer Ayodeji Balogun (aka Wizkid). was announced at the brand’s flagship store in New York, USA.
Davido’s announcement came around the same time Wizkid reignited their feud on social media, sparking jokes and swipes from fans.
Leadership reported that Wizkid had apparently called Davido “talentless” and his music a “freak” following the clash of single release dates.
The partnership between Davido and PUMA, announced last year, has resulted in two successful collections, the first launched in April and the latest featuring sportswear items such as T-shirts, sneakers, jackets and bags. I did.
At a launch event moderated by Rolling Stone reporter Mankapur Conte, Davido revealed his humble beginnings, saying his initial goal was to get his music played on Nigerian radio.
Speaking about his second collection, the 30BG boss had this to say: “The first collection, you know, we were just testing the waters because it was a risk for them. Yes, people love my music, but if people love your music and people is different from buying your product.”
Following Davido’s announcement, Davido’s fans were quick to slam Wizkid, but Wizkid hit back by claiming that he had rejected an offer from Puma and suggesting that Wizkid is bigger than Davido.
“You idiot! I turned down Puma because they couldn’t afford to pay me anymore, they wanted more from me! I don’t need Dutt! He’s so much bigger than any of the artists I mentioned earlier I’m not jealous! Love you guys…with your dirty ass shirt!” Wizkid wrote about X.
At the time of filing this report, Davido was yet to react to all these jokes despite being active on social media.
