Hon, a former member of the Kogi State Legislature. Abidemi Adebola, who represents Yagba West, claims that Governor Usman Ododo’s second term bid is destined from the start.
Naija News reported that Adebola issued the statement on his social media page on Sunday, emphasizing that the ruling party will not be allowed to turn the state into a banana republic.
The former lawmaker’s remarks corresponded to a widely circulated video clip featuring former Kogi governor Yahayabero, who was promoting a reelection campaign for his successor.
“The second term agenda is dead upon arrival. We will not turn Kogi into a banana state," Adebola wrote on her Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the Magistrates’ Court in Lokoja, Kogi has ruled that it supports the prosecutor’s request to remand Austin Okai on allegations of criminal decency and loss against cyberstalking and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
The State Department (DSS) sought the court’s approval to detain Okai while the investigation continues, citing the need to comply with Nigeria’s criminal justice system, which prohibits detention of defendants for more than 48 hours without court approval.
Filed the ruling on Friday, Magistrate Moba Abdullahi of Rugad Court Court 1st Prime Minister 1 in Lokoha granted the prosecutor’s request and ordered Okai’s remand at the Federal Corrections Centre in Kaba. The incident was postponed to March 13, 2025.
Okai, a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Dekina/Bassa federal election in the 2023 general election, faces trial in a social media post that claimed Governor Ododo had diverted billions of naira for local government councils and state agencies.
Naija News recalls that an armed guard attacked Okai’s residence in Abuja on Wednesday morning and took him away.
Okai, a known opposition, frequently speaks out about the administration’s policies and governance.
