Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday urged Nigerians to resist the temptation to go along with the schemes of unpatriotic people to foment discord through protests, violence and advocacy of civil disobedience. This will only lead to wanton destruction and anarchy.
Rather, Governor Abiodun advised all citizens to persevere, remain united, support one another and cooperate to enable the country to weather the current economic challenges being experienced across the world.
Mr. Abiodun stated this in his address at the 64th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence held at the Arcade Grounds of the National Secretariat, Okemosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
President Abiodun declared that President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies are designed to promote long-term stability and sustainable growth for the country, adding that achieving such efforts will require the collective efforts of all citizens. It reminded me of the commitment and sacrifice required.
He urged Nigerians to recommit to building an equal society where everyone has the opportunity to fulfill their potential.
“Today, Nigeria is facing economic turmoil. A combination of global economic pressures and domestic challenges are putting a huge strain on our resources. Inflation, unemployment and rising costs of living are causing many It is affecting people’s lives and creating anxiety about the future.
“These challenges are real and urgent and require immediate and sustained action. Now is not the time to lose hope. In times of adversity, nations are tested, but with the resilience that Nigerians are known for. We strongly believe that by doing so, we can overcome these economic challenges and come out stronger.
“As a government, we recognize the seriousness of the socio-economic situation in Nigeria today, which is the result of long-standing and complex problems including bad policies, leadership failures and poor governance.”
However, he reassured that the Tinubu administration is fully aware of the challenges and deeply committed to reversing these trajectories.
“Let us be resilient, pray, be patient, and continue to trust in Almighty God. Let us continue to work constructively with our government, understanding that it is an inclusive government and we do not intend to place an undue burden on our people.” Let’s get involved and cooperate,” he urged.
He added that the government is fully aware of the current economic challenges and their impact on the people, and that the federal government is taking bold but prudent steps to rebuild the economy and prevent national bankruptcy. He mentioned what he had learned.
“While necessary, these efforts come at a certain cost. As the saying goes, ‘no pain, no gain,’ there is light at the end of the tunnel, and we must be patient.
“Let us not join forces with those who seek to stir up discord by advocating protests, violence, civil disobedience, vandalism and acts that only lead to wanton destruction and possible anarchy.”
