Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that Rivers State Governor Similai Hubala and the entire people of the state have rejected what he termed political blackmail and judicial malpractice by forcing the election of leaders at the local government level. I praised him for what he did.
Mr. Atiku said this in the backdrop of the just concluded Rivers State Local Government Council elections.
Atiku wrote in a post on his verified X handle on Sunday. “The results of the local government elections in Rivers State have lifted the shadow of political intimidation and judicial malfeasance and cleared the way for the noble pursuit of governance to begin” in the state.
“From the bustling heart of Port Harcourt to the tranquil shores of Onne, the people have joined in one harmonious voice to affirm that democracy cannot be better than this.
“As predicted, Rivers residents have proven to be shrewd and resolute, unwaveringly rejecting all forms of political oppression, harassment and machinations of selfish godfathers.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected local government leaders and urge them to avoid the path of tyranny and delusional ambition in their political life and wear the welfare of the people as their highest badge of honor. .
“Furthermore, I commend the resilient people of Rivers State for their fortitude in the face of adversity and bravely ensuring that yesterday’s elections were held peacefully and honestly.
“I must also commend Governor Nunohara for upholding the sanctity of local government elections amidst provocative challenges and for his unwavering commitment to the interests of the people.
“In this grand tapestry of elections, the people ultimately win, and their sacred right to choose their leaders is firmly upheld within the framework of the democratic process.”
