The Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, the Rt. Benjamin Okezie Kalu said arrangements for an international legislative dialogue for women were concluded by the National Assembly Constitutional Review Committee.
Kalu, who is also the Chairman of the House of Representatives Constitutional Review Committee, made this known while addressing a training camp for consultants and secretariat of the committee in Abuja at the weekend.
He said the essence of the dialogue, which took place in Abuja on October 28, was for Parliament to engage with women and other well-meaning Nigerians around the world on how to increase women’s political participation in the ongoing constitutional reform movement. He said that this is true.
The Vice-Chairman spoke about the ongoing review work and assured that committees in both houses of Parliament are working diligently and optimistically to achieve the first set of changes by December 2025.
He called on the advisers of the Constitutional Review Commission and other stakeholders to be resolute in their upcoming mandate and ensure that the results meet the aspirations of Nigerians, saying they cannot afford to disappoint the people. He added that it would not be possible.

I would like to thank Dr. Tajudeen Abbas and members of the House of Representatives for your service as members of this committee in this national mission, and for your objective and critical analysis of the issues at hand and the aspiration. “I commend your work as you continue to work tirelessly towards the completion of this exercise. We cannot afford to fail Nigerians, so we especially the thought leaders are committed to the work we are doing here. I charge you all to resolutely carry out this great task, as we continue to have input into the structure and nature of our democracy, our local government system, our judicial system, and our committees. We believe that this will give Nigerians something to look at and increase their confidence and confidence in our justice system.
“The job is not easy. Legislating for the judiciary is not easy. God will give you more wisdom and resourcefulness to get through it. Thank you for your efforts. is a sacrifice for the building of the nation. History will remember you and you will be remembered as the people who wrote the new constitution. “Our work plan activities include national hearings, follow-up retreats, joint retreats with the Senate, and engagement with state legislatures and governors’ forums. I would like to emphasize that it is very important that we find ways to more easily collect their rich opinions on national policies and issues. The committee is organizing the International Legislative Dialogue for Women on Constitutional Reform, scheduled to be held at the Transcorp Hilton on October 28th. We are inviting women to come and talk about why we are not women and why we need to increase the number of women. We thank you and pray that our consideration will not be in vain.”
