The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukyoede, has called on religious leaders in the country to demonstrate greater commitment and commitment to the fight against corruption through righteous preaching.
He made the accusation while receiving a delegation of leaders of the Civic Church for All Peoples at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the EFCC’s Director of Media and Public Relations, Mr. Dele Oyewale, he said this through his Chief of Staff, EFCC Commander (CE) Michael Nzekwe. Nigeria would be a better place if we had a little space. Therefore, religious leaders, pastors, and imams should preach the right message. ”
He further emphasized, “We look to your role, and our role is to try to preach the truth to the people at our level as preachers.” did. Tell them the truth. Tell them about the dangers of corruption. ”
Mr. Okukoede also said, “People in our church live beyond their means and we know them. We have reached a level where we can speak truth to power in our congregation. Teach us about the dangers of corruption. Only when we can tell people the truth, from families to churches and mosques, can we do things right in our own spaces. Let me tell you, don’t steal. Every one of us needs to be part of the Nigerian project. So let’s make our voices heard and not hide what’s wrong. For in the end each of us will be exposed to judgment. God will take notice of what you saw and do what you did not see.”
While warning religious leaders against fraudulent practices using religion and the grace of God as a cover, he said: “At the EFCC, not only in the Christian faith, but also in the Islamic faith, we are committed to honoring God in everything we do. We acknowledge that our Muslim brothers have consistently prayed for the committee, and so have our Christian brothers. We acknowledge that and bring it to the forefront.”
Earlier, speaking on behalf of the delegation, Pastor Dickson Iloegbu said the visit was motivated by the need to unite with the commission and express appreciation for its anti-corruption efforts.
“We decided to celebrate the work you are doing for our country and pray together because we see all the effort you put in. We recognize them, but without God we can do nothing. As a church, we recognize that synergy with the spiritual arm is critical to building this nation. The people of Nigeria are watching and we believe that you will do more for our nation, even as the presence of the Lord is ever with you. “I know that this committee is placed to protect our image as a nation. I know it will not be easy, but God is with you,” he said. I did.
The delegation presented mementos to both the Executive Chairman and the Committee to express their appreciation for the EFCC’s anti-corruption efforts. “On the 25th of last month, we celebrated the Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces at church. Since the EFCC was not present that day, we came to give you some of the souvenirs we were supposed to give on that day. This is to encourage you in the work you are doing and to let you know that we look forward to your continued efforts,” Iloegbu added.
