Leadership remains resilient
Lara Olugbemi, former Leadership Weekend editor. Director of Divisional Services and Director of Standards
Wow…it’s already been 20 years.
I joined Leadership Newspaper Group in 2006 and worked there until 2015 (except for the year I took time off to experiment elsewhere).
From then until now, leadership has remained a force to be reckoned with, and its impact extends far beyond our shores. As a pioneer in many ways, the Leadership remains relevant by upholding the virtues of excellence, truth and integrity, and by staying close to and absorbing international journalistic best practices. I was never afraid to change, if necessary, to grow.
But the newspaper’s founders were never afraid to make changes when necessary. The late Sam Nda Isaiah’s visionary, fearless, nothing is impossible attitude has kept the organization thriving despite all the challenges he and the company have encountered over the years. Well, there have been some challenges! But this ship continues to sail and proves that nothing can sink it.
And, of course, the newspaper’s rise is also thanks to the quality of journalists and other professionals who have served in its leadership over the years. Leadership has always served as a hub where experienced industry professionals can be found and where budding journalists can learn and grow from them. If there’s one thing that stands out about our leadership, it’s that the people who have worked there and are still there are a family, committed to the growth of the company and each other.
Many of those who have passed through this institution currently work, or have previously worked, in places of great prestige and responsibility, including at national and international governance levels. There are very few people who pass through leadership and do not excel as journalists or in any other field of activity.
Leadership remains at the forefront of the fight for good governance, holding leaders to account, breaking news before anyone else, and delivering balanced and trustworthy reportage. Its podcast, LeVogue magazine, and National Economy are just a few of the reasons why the company is a leader and a role model.
It’s been an incredible 20 years of good, ethical journalism and innovation. I am blessed and grateful to God to be able to say that I have been a part of that story as it continues to unfold. I’m sure this is a story with a good ending.
I would like to congratulate the leadership, its management team and all staff, past and present. Keep the Leadership Newspaper Group flag held high for God and Country!
