Police in Adamawa State have arrested a teacher who has been working for 22 years for allegedly defiling two students.
Idris Abubakar of Unguwan Gaya in Mubi South LGA is said to have had sex with the victims (Almajiri) aged 11 and 12.
Students from the same community were being taught Islamic knowledge by the suspect.
Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Nugroze said one of the victims, 12, said the suspect had previously asked him and an 11-year-old boy to work after the store closed.
“He usually kept us late after closing time and had us do household chores like cleaning and washing dishes, and took advantage of us during that time,” he said.
The mother of the 12-year-old victim also told PPRO that her son had complained of abdominal pain and was also bleeding.
She said that prompted her to look into the matter and said the boy did not tell the truth until she threatened to take him to the police.
During interrogation, the suspect told SP Nugroje that he is an Islamic teacher and also an imam. He denied the accusations made by the plaintiff and the victims. He admitted that he had asked the boys to work for him after the store closed, but that he had not corrupted them.
