GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (WRGB) — Guilderland police are investigating a stabbing and subsequent shooting that occurred early Sunday at what authorities said was an organized music festival.
Authorities were called to 5777 Depot Road around 1:49 a.m. for a report of a stabbing, according to the release. Police found the 23-year-old victim, of Rome, New York, with a stab wound to the head at the scene. The victim was treated at the scene and transported by Guilderland EMS to a local hospital for further treatment, authorities said.
At about 2:06 a.m., officers were still on the scene when they heard sounds consistent with gunshots nearby. A preliminary investigation revealed that the second victim, a 21-year-old man from Brooklyn, had a gunshot wound to the shoulder, the release said. Police said the man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital.
“Mutual aid was requested due to both the size of the crowd and the circumstances surrounding these incidents,” spokesman Christopher Scarano said in a release. “This case was immediately cleared and the Guilderland Police Department continues to investigate both incidents.”
Officials said both incidents are believed to have occurred in isolation and there is no reason to believe there is a risk to community safety.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information related to these two incidents is asked to contact the Guilderland Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 518-356-1501.
