In an effort to “encourage young women and allies to use the power of their voices, whether in song or at the voting booth,” the initiative includes nonpartisan nonprofit organization Rock the Vote and New York-based creative community Gaia. Music collective Live Nation collaborated. Women have teamed up to launch Rock the Vote: Make a Beautiful Noise. The initiative is a series of 20 pop-up one-day community choirs and early voting activities across the country.
The pop-up choir will perform “A Beautiful Noise,” a Grammy-nominated song recorded by Alicia Keys and Brandi Carlile.
The series begins October 20th at the Sound Mind Center in Brooklyn, New York. Additional events are scheduled from October 26th to November 2nd in battleground states including Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, and Miami.
The free event is open to the public and held in a variety of locations, including concert halls and campus. The announcement explains that the pop-up choir is open to anyone, regardless of musical background or experience. In other words, “No auditions. No commitments. Just a community.”
After singing a song together, participants will be encouraged to vote together at early voting locations as a way to make “voting a shared and empowering experience.”
Live Nation Women’s president and chief strategy officer Ari Haenel previously told Pollstar about the commission for the song “A Beautiful Noise,” which was created by an all-female songwriting team.
“‘Beautiful Noise’ is really about mobilizing women and commemorating the rights we won,” Harnell told Pollstar ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. “Basically I asked them to write this song, so I got all the writers and artists together to send some inspiration for women’s suffrage – (2020). It was the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. And in 2020, there was a great social and racial justice awakening in this country. was supposed to be the anthem for the big event I was planning to do in 2020: All Women Vote. COVID-19 thwarted those plans, but (still) they were able to release the song in time for the 2020 election. And it really resonated and inspired a lot of people. ”
In a statement released on October 17, Haenel added: At Live Nation Women, we’re committed to using music as a force for positive change, and we’re committed to creating these impactful experiences that inspire action through music to ensure women’s voices are heard in this election. We are proud to partner with Rock the Vote and Gaia Music Collective. ”
Live Nation Women is a division of Live Nation that focuses on “empowering women within Live Nation, championing women across the live music industry, and expanding female artists and leaders.” Earlier this year, Haarnel was inducted into Pollstar’s Women of Lives Hall of Fame.
The “Rock the Vote: Make a Beautiful Noise” event will be recorded as part of a national campaign to encourage voting.
“At Rock the Vote, we believe that using your voice is a powerful act. “Make a Beautiful Noise” not only unites communities through song, but also empowers young women and allies to It also inspires collective action at a time when voices need to be heard,” said Carolyn DeWitt, President and Executive Director of Rock the Vote. “This election is so important and we are excited to create a space where young voters can come together, inspire each other, and feel empowered to shape their future.”
Hannah Tobias, co-director of Gaia Music Collective, added: “Music is a unique and powerful bridge, bringing people together and fostering connections across differences.” Through this creative and immersive initiative, we are expanding that connection and empowering individuals to make their voices heard through song and civic engagement. We are thrilled to partner with Rock the Vote and Live Nation Women to create an experience that encourages participation and solidarity through music and voting. ”
