Mr. Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, Mr. Usman Ododo, Governor of Kogi State, on the recent #EndBadGovernance protests that took place from August 1 to 10, 2024. harshly criticized the comment.
Recall that protests that started peacefully escalated into violence in several northern states.
Governor Ododo spoke about the protests in a viral video, suggesting they were part of a broader attempt to destabilize and overthrow the government at the center. His comments sparked controversy, particularly among supporters of the TakeItBack movement, one of the organizers of the protests in which Sowore has been an active participant.
In a video shared on Sowore’s X (formerly Twitter) page, Ododo warned against destructive behavior. “We should not allow ourselves to be deceived. We should not allow ourselves to become agents of destruction and destroy ourselves and our land. The name ‘TakeItBack Movement’ has been hijacked by someone I did. If you look at the last protest, it was an attempted coup d’état aimed at taking over the central government. You and I are probably confused by now. Don’t let yourself be taken advantage of. If you have any complaints or opinions, discuss them with father, son, and brother. ”
Mr Sowore, however, reacted to Mr Ododo’s claims on Page X, condemning the governor’s comments and accusing Mr Ododo of corruption and obstruction of justice. He added that the governor’s public act was one of the triggers of the revolution in the country. “Ododo of Kogi: Misfits associated with financial fraud, obstructing and obstructing justice, and claiming stakeholder status. This idiot and others like him are the ones who are in charge of systemic changes in Nigeria’s governance, viz. It highlights the need for revolution. #TakeItBack #EndBadGovernance in Nigeria.”
