Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters attacked the town of Gaidam in Yobe state early Saturday morning, killing a security guard and destroying a Nigeria Customs vehicle.
Police and military officials confirmed the incident on Saturday.
The leadership reliably gathered that the attack occurred around 3:30 am, and the assailants began storming the town and firing explosives randomly into the community.
The clash resulted in two vehicles belonging to the Nigeria Customs Service being set on fire.
The attackers also attacked the grave of resident Khalifa Airoma in Kololi district and set it on fire.
The militants also attacked the residence of 60-year-old night watchman Dahir Muhammadu, who was stationed opposite Gaidam University of Technology.
Muhammadu was shot in the neck and taken to Gaydam Specialist Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Alhaji Noor, a resident, told the Leadership by phone that some residents were still missing, but the number of those killed had not been confirmed.
He added that some residents were evacuated from the city due to panic caused by terrorist shootings.
