Peter Obi, the Labor Party (LP) candidate for the 2023 presidential election, on Saturday explained why he would kneel before the newly crowned 14th Asagba Obi (Professor Epiphany Azinge) in Asaba, Delta State.
He said the gesture was to underline the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage, which he noted was essential to building the productive society needed for a new Nigeria.
Obi, who expressed his pleasure to witness the coronation ceremony, said it was important not only for the people of Asaba town but for everyone who understands the value of tradition and leadership.
“This act of respect speaks to our long-standing shared cultural heritage and the respect we have for our traditional values and leadership.
“It was an honor to witness such a historic moment and to be part of a celebration that celebrates both Asaba’s rich heritage and Professor Ajinji’s outstanding leadership qualities.
“His elevation to this esteemed position reflects his lifelong contributions to both academia and the legal profession, where his contributions have been extraordinary.
“His coronation marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Asagba Kingdom. I wish him a fruitful year as Asagba and pray that his reign brings peace, progress and prosperity to the people. ” Obi prayed.
