President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to the Niger State government and people over the boat accident that occurred in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday night.
The boat, carrying about 300 people, mainly women and children, was reportedly navigating the Gbajibo River from Mundi community in Kiama Local Government Area of Kwara State when it capsized.

At least 150 people were rescued from the scene, while 25 bodies have been recovered so far.
In a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
The President also directed the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to investigate the spate of boating accidents in Niger State and across the country and devise measures to arrest the trend.
He also directed the agency to expand surveillance of inland waters and prosecute boat operators who violate the night navigation ban to ensure public safety.
President Tinubu praised emergency workers and local divers for their efforts in searching for the remaining people.
