President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the elder statesman and frontline leader of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), former Chief of Army Staff, General Alani Ipura Akinrinade, on his 85th birthday and extended his extraordinary wishes to Nigeria. He praised his contribution.
Mr. Tinubu, in his congratulations conveyed through a statement by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, acknowledged General Akinrinade’s glorious military service, important role in the Civil War and his esteemed position as the Chief of Army Staff.
The President also highlighted the retired general’s pivotal leadership in the restoration of democracy in Nigeria after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 elections.
He highlighted General Akinrinade’s significant leadership within NADECO both at home and in exile, praising his dedication to democratic governance and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s development.
“The General was one of those who gave us inspiring leadership and direction during difficult times within the National Democratic Alliance,” Tinubu said.
He appealed to General Akinrinade and other NADECO leaders with a firm commitment to boosting the economy and improving the standard of living of Nigerians in order to make all those who fought for democracy in the country proud. He assured his determination.
Mr. Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Mr. Akinrinade for his wise counsel and encouraged the elder statesman to continue sharing his valuable insights with government and society.
