Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Douye Diri has rubbished rumors of a falling out between him and his predecessor, Senator Henry Siriake Dickson.
According to a report in Naija News, Mr Diri led a delegation including his deputy, Mr Lawrence Ehurujakpo, to Mr Dickson’s countryside in Tolu Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area (LGA) for a Christmas visit. This has been made clear.
Mr. Diri on Tuesday condemned the spread of rumors in the state in a statement from his spokesperson, Daniel Alabula, noting that the visit would put an end to speculation about the rift between Mr. Diri and Mr. Dickson.
The governor pledged to continue working with Mr. Dickson for the development of the state and urged politicians to avoid rancor and divisive tendencies.
He stressed that he is not perfect as governor, adding, “We have come a long way and we will resolve any disagreements that arise.”
“There is too much resentment in the state’s political arena, and I believe this visit will alleviate that,” he said.
“Anyone interested in political office should avoid bitterness. God gives power, but He uses men, as we have all witnessed in this state. God used the immediate past governor to ensure our succession.
“My decisions as governor are never perfect and can sometimes anger people, including you. But if you call me, I can explain and tell you the other side. The government may reverse a decision if it knows what it did was wrong.
“We remain one. Politics may come and go, but we remain here. So let us show brotherhood and love to one another, not only with our words, but with our actions.”
In his remarks, Senator Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West in the Red House of Parliament, said efforts by mischief makers to create hatred between him and Diri had failed.
He promised to work with the governor in the interest of the state and its development.
“The start of this long-awaited visit highlights the personal relationship and relationship between our people and their families. We express our gratitude to him and his wife,” he said. .
“We believe this will dispel most of the negativity and allow us to continue working without distractions. That’s fine for us. Our duty is to support him.”
