The United Coalition of Political Parties (CUPP) has alleged that Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and security agents are planning to arrest Hon Ugochinyele Michael Ikeagwonu, the lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The federation made this assertion on Thursday in a statement provided to Naija News after a press conference in Abuja.
CUPP, through its Secretary-General Peter Ameh, said the alleged conspiracy was a serious threat to democracy.
They termed it a “secret plan to defame, smear and suppress the voice of one of Nigeria’s most vocal and incorrupt opposition leaders.”
The group claimed that it had been training false witnesses to give false testimony against Ugochinyere in Abuja for over six weeks in collaboration with security agencies in cahoots with Wike’s allies.
“This is a hopeless, low-budget Nollywood production that has already failed in its purpose,” the coalition claimed.
They stressed that “Mr. Ikenga’s determination to speak truth to power is God-given and cannot be silenced by intimidation, intimidation or false allegations.”
The coalition also announced plans for nationwide protests to resist the alleged conspiracy.
Naija News reports that Mr Ugochinyere has criticized Mr Wike, particularly regarding his role in the ongoing crisis within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
