The Nigerian government has expressed interest in partnering with Italy to promote the use of space technology for socio-economic development. According to Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Uche Nnaji, the cooperation aims to address important issues such as environmental protection and agricultural efficiency.
Speaking on Friday during the visit of the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Stefano De Leo, in Abuja, Minister Nagy highlighted the role of space technology in mitigating challenges such as flooding and reducing conflicts between herders and farmers. He stressed that leveraging this technology is essential to combat the increasing impacts of climate change, especially in flood-prone areas of northern Nigeria.

The minister cited an assessment by the space agency that revealed that Cameroon’s Lagudo dam had flooded, noting that flooding in several northern provinces was one of the pressing challenges facing the country.
Ambassador de Leo expressed Italy’s determination to strengthen its partnership with Nigeria in the field of science and technology, and said the country would leverage its leading role in Africa to leverage its vast human and natural resources for technological advancement. encouraged them to make use of it.
